FREMANTLE

VOLUNTEER HERITAGE GUIDES

Bookings

Do you wish to reserve a specific time for your event at the Fremantle Round House? For small groups (not tour groups) or family visits, we allow walk-ins, depending on our opening hours and the numbers in your group. Groups of 10 people and over require a group booking due to current safety restrictions. Should you wish to enquire about the types of bookings below, we ask that you fill out the form on the “Contact Us” tab, giving us as much information as you can. You can also email us directly at enquiries@fremantleroundhouse.com.au, and we’ll get back to you. All bookings are on a first in, first served basis.

There is only one Cannon Firer booking taken per day for the One O’Clock Time Signal and Gun, for, you guessed it – One O’Clock, sharp!

Our office hours are limited at present, so we appreciate your patience in getting back to your enquiry.

Schools

If you’re teaching your students the history of Fremantle and would like to bring your class to the Round House for an affordable excursion, please contact us via the “Contact Us” tab of this website to reserve your booking. Please provide the information below allowing us to confirm your booking promptly. You will be emailed a booking form with further information. Make sure you request your date and time, or preferred dates and times if you have them, keeping in mind our opening hours of 10.30am – 3.30pm.

Schools that do not book will only be admitted if space is available and no other bookings have been made – the Round House is very small and must remain open and accessible to the public during your visit. However there is plenty of room to wait on the adjacent grass.

Please provide:

  • Name of School
  • Preferred dates and time of visit
  • Year Group
  • Specific Interest, and
  • If visiting other venues in Fremantle that day please advise us of that too!

We may take a little while to respond as we complete administration within part time hours. So please allow as much time as possible. We will send the necessary Insurance cover note and negotiate the donated amount for your visit. If your school issues cheques only, please make the cheque out to Fremantle Volunteer Heritage Guides Association. The cheque is to be posted to us 14 days before the date of your excursion. If cheque or cash is handed to our volunteer Guides, a receipt will be issued as soon as possible by email.

Weddings

We are responsible for renting out the lawn reserve, adjacent to the Fremantle Round House for wedding ceremonies. The entire reserve (Arthurs Head) is Heritage listed and is vested with the City of Fremantle. Photography in the Round House before or after your ceremony is always permitted during opening hours (10.30am – 3.30pm), but please note that the building must be open to the public at all times. At present, we do not open the Round House after hours for wedding photography. Neither do we permit the use of the Fremantle Round House building itself for wedding ceremonies. The Round House, as Fremantle’s first Gaol, is heritage listed and opened only by Fremantle Volunteer Guides special purpose lease from the City of Fremantle. It is with respect to the Round House’s previous usage as a Colonial and Aboriginal prison that we do not permit any service or ceremonies to take place within its walls.

The lawn is a public place so please keep this in mind when making your booking. However, as the City Of Fremantle no longer take wedding ceremony bookings for their public spaces, booking with us does mean that your booking will be the only wedding on the lawn on your wedding day and no double bookings can occur. The usual laws pertaining to a public place apply. WA liquor law prohibits alcohol to be served. Local council regulations apply to any pets in attendance – they must be kept under strict control. Storage for extra items such as chairs or umbrellas is not available and all set up and decor must be arranged by the wedding party. The nearest public toilets on Mrs Trivett Place are open during daylight hours only.

Please contact us via the “Contact Us” tab on this website or email us directly at enquiries@fremantleroundhouse.com.au to discuss your plans with us for your ceremony in this beautiful location and to reserve your preferred date. A $120 donation to confirm your booking will enable us to keep the Round House open to the public for many years to come.

Donations

Remember that Fremantle Round House is run by volunteers and cannot run without the help of donations. Entry to the Round House is by a recommended gold coin donation and all donations are greatly appreciated.
